The main event was on the Saturday before Labor Day, August 31st this
year, and the location in the Nevada desert. The exact time of the burning
varies from year to year depending on conditions.
This year, the burn was expected to
begin at about 9:30 PM Pacific time, and the actual Ignition was exactly
at 9:34. The Burning Man collapsed 15 minutes later at 9:49.
The GCP event was set for 6 hours beginning at 9:00 local
time, August 31.
(04:00 to 10:00 UTC Sept 1). The result is Chisquare
21876.008 on 21600 df, for p = 0.093 and Z = 1.326.
This analysis is corrected by removing a rotten egg.
It is important to keep in mind that we have only a tiny
statistical effect, so that it is always hard to distinguish
signal from noise. This means that every "success" might be
largely driven by chance, and every "null" might include a real
signal overwhelmed by noise. In the long run, a real effect can
be identified only by patiently accumulating replications of
similar analyses.
