A Native American ceremony to honor the earth was
performed on October 6, 2006 at 11:00 PM. Eastern
Daylight Time in the U.S.A. At that time
the world's inhabitants were invited to participate in the
ceremony in an effort to protect the environment from man's
intervention. They asked for a gift of 15 minutes
of time to think about what each individual can do to help save us
from ourselves.
While this was not likely to be an event that engaged a
large proportion of people in the world, it appealed to my
sense of what a "global consciousness" might perceive, so I
decided to make it a formal trial, in the spirit of a few
others in the past. The analysis period was set for exactly
the time specified by Gray Hawk (Donald Loock), which
corresponds to 03:00 to 03:15 GMT. The results show a modest
positive outcome, with Chisquare 937.34 on 900 df for p =
0.188 and Z = 0.884. The graphical trace of the 15 minutes
begins relatively flat, but has a strong incline during the last
5 minutes.
