Oraworld Reconciliation Oct 2 2006 |
For a second time we look at an Oraworld event, where art is used to bring people together, created by Sonia Deotto. This time, the event is a synchronized ceremony of "opposites" and is described as a reconciliation. The terms are symbolic, and refer to a simultaneous ceremony in India and in Mexico, on opposite sides of the Earth. The symbolism points to the reconciliation needed among all peoples to attain peace and be allowed to exploit our creativity for the good of a prosperous future. Here is the artist-organizer's description:
The formal event was set for 12:00 to midnight, GMT, which is a period extending from an hour before the ceremonies begin, and continuing for the rest of the GMT day, a total of 12 hours, similar to last year's event. The result shows a relatively flat trajectory, without indication of major deviations during most of the specified period. The Chisquare is 43229.937 on 43200 df for p = 0.459 and Z = 0.104. This is quite different from the results for the First Action, but similar to many meditation events that have a "calming" quality. It is worth noting that single event analyses should not be strongly interpreted because the signal to noise ratio is too low to ensure that real effects are not buried in the noise, nor to recognize noise masquerading as an effect. (A personal note: This day also was marked by yet another murderous rampage in a school. Young girls in an Amish school were executed by a deranged person. I don't know how to understand the mix of celebration and tragedy.)
