In the US and Europe, and in many
other parts of the world, the day honoring St. Valentine is
given to expressions of love, most prominently romantic
love, but in recent times also a broader brotherhood, as
well as love for the environment and the earth.
Valentine's Day turns out to be a focus for a number of
groups and individuals organizing meditations and other
forms of communion, beyond the widespread consideration of
February 14 as a day of Love.
This year, 2013, there is a new and powerful addition. It is called
V-DAY, and is a movement to eliminate violence against women. Also called
"One Billion Rising," the intent is to have as many people around the
world as possible thinking about this concern. It is a "global strike
to demand an end to the violence."
As we have in previous years, we also recognize another special
presentation on the 14th. Johathan Goldman, who
teaches sound healing, organizes each year a day to
apply healing intent focused by toning to help heal the earth.
The GCP event was set for the 24 hour UTC day, to include
participation as described in the Sound Healing
instructions. This also includes many other meditations around the world.
And it includes huge numbers brought to common focus and common cause by
V-day and the billion rising.
The outcome is
Chisquare 86401.572 on 86400 degrees of freedom, for p = 0.498
and Z = 0.005. The endpoint, which is the formal test, is thus not
different from null deviation. However, there are very large variations
during the day, especially early morning. This can be seen in the
figure.
It is important to keep in mind that we have only a tiny
statistical
effect, so that it is always hard to distinguish signal from
noise. This means that every "success" might be largely
driven by chance, and every "null" might include a real
signal overwhelmed by noise. In the long run, a real effect
can
be identified only by patiently accumulating replications of
similar analyses.
